New year, new danger!

Happy new year!

I breathed a sigh of (contented) relief when SPEEC - the Symposium for Performance of Experimental and Electronic Composition came to a close this weekend, after nearly a year of planning and preparation (I co-created and convened the event with Chris Garrard, a very talented AHRC funded composition DPhil here in Oxford).

30 presenters from as far afield as Candada, Norway, Italy, and Holland, as well as representatives from many of the top UK academic institutions gave papers (including Edinburgh, Brunel, Royal Holloway, Bath Spa and many, many more), and, incredibly for a new event in the arts of this type with no external funding, we just about managed to break even!! There will be some publications documenting some of the work in due course, but for now, here are a few pictures to whet your appetite:

In more usual business, I'm back to doing various bits of recording and some teaching this term. Here's a picture of local boys 'The Yarns' in action .

I'm still carrying on with some reviewing work for the upcoming AES (Budapest) convention, and hope to be able to join those of you planning on making the trip - but for now, I'd better get on with some work.

Thanks for stopping by!

Duncan
