It's in the journal Sensors, and you can see the full reference on my <a href="http://duncanwilliamsdotinfo.blogspot.com/p/writing.html">writing</a> pages. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-emB5sXXlDE8Ybe_NB5tJGlu4KXqnb2JfBhDyQO10NnuyFSMLQyxFEL5nazKm9QDAQHX7IFvTZ9-G44QBvY6nZNgBNfIGZt7B3RGgHNiicKPhdu-ET03RPmw3Pt-nQ3BhwIoA-jjhO8U/s855/cover-sensors-v17-i2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="855" data-original-width="597" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-emB5sXXlDE8Ybe_NB5tJGlu4KXqnb2JfBhDyQO10NnuyFSMLQyxFEL5nazKm9QDAQHX7IFvTZ9-G44QBvY6nZNgBNfIGZt7B3RGgHNiicKPhdu-ET03RPmw3Pt-nQ3BhwIoA-jjhO8U/s320/cover-sensors-v17-i2.png" /></a></div><p></p><p>I'm pleased to say the journal is open access, so free to read for anyone (the way research should be!). Term time is about to start, and in the current climate that means a lot more time working on our courses behind the scenes, so you might not hear from me for a while now, but thanks for stopping by!</p><p>Duncan</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5862971573426429199.post-11059205769811063932020-07-22T10:59:00.002+01:002020-07-22T10:59:30.045+01:00Virtual conferences and new book chapterHello,<br />
<br />
<a href="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61sgeaQC8FL._AC_UY218_.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="Audio Education: Theory, Culture, and Practice eBook: Walzer ..." border="0" src="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61sgeaQC8FL._AC_UY218_.jpg" /></a>Two lockdown related updates this month. Firstly I'm very curious to attend the <a href="https://nime2020.bcu.ac.uk/" target="_blank">20th conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME)</a>, which is being held virtually for the first time ever. I have papers to present on a work-in-progress project about adaptive audio for wellbeing, with colleagues at Salford, QMUL, and Sheffield universities, and on my own project using Brain-Computer-Interfacing technology to help with audio mixing.<br />
<br />
Secondly, I am pleased to have been able to contribute a (rather timely) chapter all about distance learning for audio engineers, to a new <a href="https://www.routledge.com/Audio-Education-Theory-Culture-and-Practice/Walzer-Lopez/p/book/9780367074449" target="_blank">Routledge book, Audio Education, Theory culture and Practice </a><br />
<br />
Details of all three are in the <a href="http://duncanwilliamsdotinfo.blogspot.com/p/writing.html" target="_blank">writing</a> pages here of course.<br />
<br />
That's it for now, with a bit of a summer break on the horizon!<br />
Cheers,<br />
Duncan<br />

Hello, I'm reflecting on my first year as a lecturer at <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salford_Acoustics" target="_blank">Salford Acoustic Research Centre</a> - a great year with a brilliant team, and fab students who have been very resilient in the midst of the global pandemic. I'm pleased to say that as of next term I will be the course leader for the Sound Engineering and Production BSc degree, which I've since found on doing some digging on Unistats, has some really nice student feedback already (pic attached!). I hope not to make a mess of them!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EajajQLXsAA8Cou?format=jpg&name=medium" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img alt="Image" border="0" height="198" src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EajajQLXsAA8Cou?format=jpg&name=medium" width="320" /></a></div>
Also out now is an open access journal publication in <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41597-020-0507-6" target="_blank">Nature Scientific Data</a>, which reports on our findings with joint EEG and fMRI studies in response to my affectively-driven algorithmic music generator - which is also available to download via the Nature website. As always, more details are available on the <a href="http://duncanwilliamsdotinfo.blogspot.com/p/writing.html" target="_blank">writing </a>page of my site (the paper itself is free open access).<br />
<br />
More publications coming soon - particularly two exciting book chapters and conference paper reports from the forthcoming <a href="https://nime2020.bcu.ac.uk/" target="_blank">NIME (now virtual) event in July</a>, but until then thanks for stopping by.<br />

<br />
Our chapter,<a href="https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007%2F978-3-030-34784-0_11" target="_blank"> "Hello Computer, How Am I Feeling?" Case Studies of Neural Technology to Measure Emotions</a>, is part of our longer term collaboration on research into the field we are dubbing "Neurocuratorship" - more on that soon. The chapter features in C.S. Nam's new book, "<a href="https://www.springer.com/gp/book/9783030347833" target="_blank">Neuroergonomics, Principles and Practice</a>" released in February by <a href="https://www.springer.com/gp/book/9783030347833" target="_blank">Springer</a>.<br />
<br />
In more publications news, we have a forthcoming conference paper (travel dependent!) accepted for <a href="https://www.icsv27.org/" target="_blank">ICSV27, the International Congress on Sound and Vibration</a>, which is being held this year in Prague. If you are planning on going, do let me know. This paper is a collaboration with colleagues at Arup, looking at the use of EEG to determine neural and acoustic correlates of noise and perceived annoyance in environmental soundscapes.<br />
<br />
References and details for both are now on the <a href="https://duncanwilliamsdotinfo.blogspot.com/p/writing.html" target="_blank">writing pages </a>of this blog.<br />
<br />
Bye for now,<br />

<br />
Just a quick one to note that I'm on the co-host on a recent episode of the <a href="https://player.fm/series/break-it-down-show/alex-doman-the-power-of-sound-and-mind" target="_blank">Break it Down Show podcast</a> series, this time with Alex Doman from <a href="https://advancedbrain.com/alex-doman/" target="_blank">Advanced Brain Technologies</a>.<br />
<br />
The show was a lot of fun to record and whilst it mainly focuses on Alex's work I'm sure if you find my work of interest you might enjoy it.<br />
<br />
Check it out on all good podcast formats, e.g., <a href="http://player.fm/">Player.FM</a> (!)<br />

<br />
the <a href="http://cmr.soc.plymouth.ac.uk/bcmi/" target="_blank">BCMI-MIdAS</a> team have a new journal paper out in <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-45105-2" target="_blank">Nature Sci Reps</a>, details are on the <a href="http://duncanwilliamsdotinfo.blogspot.com/p/writing.html" target="_blank">writing </a>page now or <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-45105-2" target="_blank">go here</a> to check it out (open access). The paper reports on brain activity (specifically approach-withdrawal behaviour) as shown in the electroncephalograph in response to algorithmically generated music.<br />
<br />
Secondly I'm pleased to say that the MOOC I have been a part of designing (a free online course for budding engineers) with the Electronic Engineering team at York will be running from September via <a href="https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/creating-the-amazing-engineering-the-future" target="_blank">Futurelearn</a>. <br />
So far my travels have taken me across the USA, through to Japan, Hong Hong, and back again, and I'm now in Austin, Texas, for South by SouthWest (SXSW).<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzrXwmagCxC490_lCO7T2G0XNs5A8ltW22FOIF0MKi67ChoPtLcQNpCnDjnbb5Rbu4vbPWQdt9VBoKwWLK6O-rOWEdUTBy0Kbty6PbFhIxzVZdIlDlhNuY3skWMhrTOrWEcUZJbLZVTFs/s1600/IMG_20190309_151530_843.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1564" data-original-width="1564" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzrXwmagCxC490_lCO7T2G0XNs5A8ltW22FOIF0MKi67ChoPtLcQNpCnDjnbb5Rbu4vbPWQdt9VBoKwWLK6O-rOWEdUTBy0Kbty6PbFhIxzVZdIlDlhNuY3skWMhrTOrWEcUZJbLZVTFs/s320/IMG_20190309_151530_843.jpg" width="320" /></a>I was delighted to be invited to give a talk at this years event, as part of the <i>Social and Global Impact track</i> sponsored by The Rockefeller Foundation. My talk was titled "<a href="https://schedule.sxsw.com/2019/events/PP102397" target="_blank">What are our bodies telling us about noise?</a>" and I've added the details to the talks section of the writing page.<br />
<br />
My next stops are the <a href="http://www.aes.org/events/146/presenters/?ID=8149" target="_blank">AES 146th convention in Dublin</a>, where I'll be presenting our paper on horror film music evaluation using biosensors, and AES IIA in York, where I'm a co-paper chair, and as well as <a href="http://www.aes.org/conferences/2019/immersive/program_keynotes_panels.cfm#panel1" target="_blank">chairing a panel on the use of biosensors for immersive audio</a>, I'll be looking forward to running a demo workshop with my colleagues from Arup showing our noise metering paradigm.<br />
<br />
Bye for now,<br />
<br />

<br />
I've added a few upcoming conference publications to the <a href="http://duncanwilliamsdotinfo.blogspot.com/p/writing.html" target="_blank">writing </a>pages. If you are going to any of the following, I'll see you there:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a href="https://www.namm.org/thenammshow/2019/attend/aes" target="_blank">AES/NAMM</a> (Los Angeles, CA, February)<br />
<a href="https://www.sxsw.com/" target="_blank">SXSW </a>(Austin, TX, March)<br />
<a href="http://www.aes.org/events/146/" target="_blank">AES146 </a>(Dublin, March)<br />
<a href="http://www.aes.org/conferences/2019/immersive/" target="_blank">AESIIA </a>(York, March)<br />
<a href="http://inter.noise/">Inter.Noise</a> (Madrid, June)<br />
<br />
I'm very pleased that results from our project with <b>Arup </b>will be seeing the light of day in a workshop session at <a href="http://www.aes.org/conferences/2019/immersive/" target="_blank">AESIIA</a>, and in a paper for <a href="http://inter.noise./">Inter.Noise.</a> We also have papers from our DC-Labs project on adaptive audio at both <a href="http://www.aes.org/conferences/2019/immersive/" target="_blank">AESIIA </a>and <a href="http://www.aes.org/events/146/" target="_blank">AES146</a>, so again I'm very much looking forward to presenting our findings on biosensor responsive machine learning techniques for audio generation. We also have a new entry in proc. for the <i>Springer Encyclopedia of Computer Graphics and Games,</i> focusing on emotion in video game music, again details on the <a href="http://duncanwilliamsdotinfo.blogspot.com/p/writing.html" target="_blank">writing </a>page.<br />
<br />
Finally but no less importantly I'm delighted to have been awarded funding via iCURE (Innovate UK) for our <i>WaveTrace </i>project, which will mean a lot of international travel to discuss possible research directions over the coming 3 months. I'll be back in <a href="http://digitalcreativity.ac.uk/" target="_blank">DC Labs</a> in April but will try to update here with a travel log if I get time!<br />

<br />
I was delighted to be shortlisted for the final of the <a href="https://www.falling-walls.com/engage" target="_blank">Falling Walls Engage</a> - a science communication award - held last week as part of Berlin Science Festival. This was for our work on Dolittle, a DC Labs project which uses technology and anthropomorphism to engage the public with conservation and biology. Collaborators include The Deep in Hull and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.
Unfortunately, we didn't win - but amongst such a fantastic group of finalists that hardly mattered!<br />
<br />
Secondly, we are very busy behind the scenes working on the forthcoming <a href="http://www.aeas.org/conferences/2019/immersive/" target="_blank">York AES conference</a>, which I am proud to be papers co-chair on. The call for paper submissions is now closed, but if you are interested in submitting an engineering brief, that call will open shortly.<br />
<br />
Bye for now!<br />
DuncanUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5862971573426429199.post-62817360263922497692018-09-17T15:36:00.001+01:002018-09-17T15:36:20.815+01:00Lots of updates!Hello!<br />
<br />
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/-hlkt0NK3bE/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-hlkt0NK3bE?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>Sorry about the very long time since my last update here. So what have I been doing?!<br />
<br />
Firstly, I've been working with the research team at The Deep aquarium in Hull, we produced an interactive virtual reality game "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hlkt0NK3bE" target="_blank">Jellyfishin'</a>" which made it's debut earlier this year at York's Festival of Ideas. It is due to make another outing in a couple of weeks at the York Mediale event in October.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/6AvXu7yEBZY/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6AvXu7yEBZY?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
Sticking with The Deep, we held a live late night event using biosensors and sound as part of the <a href="https://www.britishscienceassociation.org/news/full-programme-revealed-for-british-science-festival-2018" target="_blank">British Science Festival last week</a> - covered by several press outlets, including the BBC, here - as well as 1000 visitors (a sold out ticketed event).<br />
<br />
I then spent some very interesting research time working with LEVC and the new electric taxi, including a research report which <a href="https://www.google.co.uk/search?rlz=1C1GCEA_enGB765GB765&ei=sLufW8zPNtHfwQLknIDYDw&q=duncan+williams+levc&oq=duncan+williams+levc&gs_l=psy-ab.3...2114.2114.0.2290.1.1.0.0.0.0.52.52.1.1.0....0...1.1.64.psy-ab..0.0.0....0.-Ba9Onwlhsc" target="_blank">picked up a lot of press coverage</a>. This work involved evaluating the sound world of the new electric taxi from a physiological and psychological point of view and had some rather interesting results (no spoilers here!).<br />
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/_hTXmGD0o_k/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_hTXmGD0o_k?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><br />
Also on the biosensor front, I spent a very exciting week at Arup SoundLab working on a collaborative research project which has seen us disseminate our results across the Arup network via a London Lunchtime Lecture and will be the subject of some more formal writing very shortly. I also presented some work about using BCI for ensemble music performance at the 2018 <a href="http://wrocahensemble.sites.sheffield.ac.uk/tim" target="_blank">Together in Music conference</a> (details on the publications page).<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXHYFSZFDwEgI68rAXTOEEFaLFiDDvWXmEgkyAzr1qZKVakg0kBriSY5zIlE7Y1AwoeThaww4bgTQ43HV6DywLXti-IuwPOI5rn9SGMJW0Jn8yr0IDBrkOgBfbiiRn5JM1GnPvI_5Sfkk/s1600/Screenshot+%2528185%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="589" data-original-width="589" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXHYFSZFDwEgI68rAXTOEEFaLFiDDvWXmEgkyAzr1qZKVakg0kBriSY5zIlE7Y1AwoeThaww4bgTQ43HV6DywLXti-IuwPOI5rn9SGMJW0Jn8yr0IDBrkOgBfbiiRn5JM1GnPvI_5Sfkk/s320/Screenshot+%2528185%2529.png" width="320" /></a>Regarding conferences, I am the papers co-chair for the forthcoming <a href="http://www.aes.org/conferences/2019/immersive/" target="_blank">AES conference on immersive and interactive audio</a>, which will be held in York in 2019. I also had the great pleasure of being an invited speaker at this years <a href="https://research.hud.ac.uk/institutes-centres/apl/events/wimp18/" target="_blank">Workshop on Intelligent Music Production</a> - in great company amongst academics and indstury; Bafta winning engineers, R&D from Abbey Road etc etc - at the fantastic facilities of Huddersfield University. The workshop was sold out but I'm told the talk was videoed and will be online shortly.<br />

Lots of very productive work has been happening, including a couple of upcoming publications. Firstly, I'm looking forward to presenting some new work (in collaboration with Damian Murphy in the Electronic Engineering dept here at York, and Bruno Fazenda in the Acoustics dept at the University of Salford), at next weeks <a href="http://www.qmul.ac.uk/dmrn/dmrn12/" target="_blank">DMRN+12 conference in London</a>. So if you are going along, drop me a line and let's catch up!<br />
<br />
Secondly, next month will see the release of a very exciting book in the brain-computer interfacing world, the new <i><b>Brain-Computer Interfaces Handbook</b></i>, on CRC Press (Taylor and Francis). I have contributed a chapter on using brain-computer interfacing for music. The book <a href="https://www.crcpress.com/Brain-Computer-Interfaces-Handbook-Technological-and-Theoretical-Advances/Nam-Nijholt-Lotte/p/book/9781498773430" target="_blank">goes on general release on Jan 24th here</a>.<br />
<br />
Also I am pleased to say that after a great rehearsal with <a href="http://www.ensemblebash.com/" target="_blank">Ensemble Bash</a>, our piece 'Reptile Rhythms' for the 13th <a href="http://cmr.soc.plymouth.ac.uk/event.htm" target="_blank">Peninsula Arts Contemporary Music Festival</a> next March had a shout-out on BBC Radio 3's Music Matters programme with Tom Service last Sunday, which is<a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09hr3w6#play" target="_blank"> currently still on iPlayer here</a>.<br />
<br />
Lots more going on behind the scenes so stop by for another update soon. Maybe even before February!<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBdukAAUR9AdUdXZzsOhla3gGer8s9shLhDnUYDl8pW_i-bO8WSjlHU3-yjdxDuIE4L7V3Lk4H-DcGOhgKK-K3r_U27ZYWPN2MnVjH7Pg1bYU6kbHjZeUbTnCq8dhOCQpSJEL3f9U2Hl4/s1600/Screen+Shot+2017-05-22+at+14.44.49.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBdukAAUR9AdUdXZzsOhla3gGer8s9shLhDnUYDl8pW_i-bO8WSjlHU3-yjdxDuIE4L7V3Lk4H-DcGOhgKK-K3r_U27ZYWPN2MnVjH7Pg1bYU6kbHjZeUbTnCq8dhOCQpSJEL3f9U2Hl4/s1600/Screen+Shot+2017-05-22+at+14.44.49.png" /></a>I have a new journal article in this issue of the <a href="http://tap.acm.org/" target="_blank">ACM Transactions on Applied Perception</a>, titled <i>Affective Calibration of Musical Feature Sets in an Emotionally Intelligent Music Composition System</i>. Yes, it's a bit of a mouthful! The paper basically details a large part of the artificial intelligence processes involved in the <a href="http://cmr.soc.plymouth.ac.uk/bcmi-midas/" target="_blank">MIdAS brain-computer music interfacing project</a>. There is a follow-up paper in proc which will give a bit more detail about the neural network approach in action, but for now you can find out more details in the <a href="http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=3059005" target="_blank">ACM Digital Library.</a> The same team also has a forthcoming conference paper <i>Affective Brain Computer Music Interfacing: A Case Study Of Use By An Individual With Huntington’s Disease</i> to be presented at the <a href="https://www.tugraz.at/institute/ine/graz-bci-conferences/graz-bci-conference-2017/" target="_blank">7th Graz BCI conference, Austria</a>, later this year. Citations for both are available from the writing page of my site.<br />
<br />
Finally, I am looking forward to making a couple of big announcements regarding a big move this summer, but for now, as I mentioned in the last entry, next week I will be at the <a href="https://www.exzellenz.hu-berlin.de/en/funding/top-level-research/kosmos/kosmos-dialogues" target="_blank">KOSMOS dialogue at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin</a>, so if you are going along do say hello.<br />

<br />
I had a very enjoyable few days with colleagues at the Computational Ethnomusicology workshop, University of Lieden, Netherlands earlier this month. I'm looking forward to working with new collaborators across the EU in the coming months developing some exciting new projects together.<br />
<br />
A few other pieces of news, firstly two upcoming conference papers, one at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, discussing a new application for BCI technology to neuro-curatorship in collaboration with Imperial College London and Paignton Zoo, and the other as part of the <a href="http://cmr.soc.plymouth.ac.uk/bcmi" target="_blank">BCMI-MIdAS</a> project discussing a case study of use by an individual with Huntington's Disease. Details of both are on the publications page of my site now.<br />
<br />
Finally, I was fortunate enough to visit Arup's SoundLab facility in Manchester last week (shown above), working towards a new collaborative project with them. I hope to be able to release more details of this soon, but for now, thanks for visiting!<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

<br />
<a href="http://a465.g.akamai.net/f/465/1984/1d/www.ingentaconnect.com/images/journal-logos/intellect/mms.gif" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt=" logo" border="0" src="http://a465.g.akamai.net/f/465/1984/1d/www.ingentaconnect.com/images/journal-logos/intellect/mms.gif" /></a>I'm pleased to say that a collaboration with my colleague Marcio Alves da Rocha from the Federal Univerity of Goiás, Brazil, entitled <i>Decoding cultural signifiers of Brazilian identity and the African diaspora in the music of Sepultura</i> has just been published in this months edition of the <i>Metal Music Studies</i> journal (Intellect/Ingenta). Full details are on my <a href="http://duncanwilliamsdotinfo.blogspot.co.uk/p/writing.html" target="_blank">publications page</a>, or you can visit the <a href="http://www.intellectbooks.co.uk/journals/view-issue,id=3250/" target="_blank">journal homepage here</a>.<br />
<br />
Also at the end of this month I am very much looking forward to attending the <i>Computational Ethnomusicology: Methodologies for a New Field</i> workshop at the Lorentz Centre, Lieden, Netherlands. Again details in the <a href="http://duncanwilliamsdotinfo.blogspot.co.uk/p/writing.html" target="_blank">publications page.</a> If you are attending, do let me know and hopefully we will be able to catch up! (I'm also going to see <a href="https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwj21LCfuMnSAhXLAcAKHd-hDlcQFggaMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thetruemayhem.com%2F&usg=AFQjCNGteitZa_Hefcqtb69_zhw-CFIfCg&sig2=1rhUErBahm57u-hEDzG0YA&bvm=bv.149093890,d.d24" target="_blank">Mayhem</a> on the 28th in Haarlem so if you are going to go to that from Lieden, again, drop me a line!).<br />
<br />
That's all for now, more soon..<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

You don't need access to the ACM digital library as this (along with a couple of others from the special issues on musical metacreation) have been published live on the <a href="https://cie.acm.org/articles/perceptual-and-affective-evaluation-affectively-driven-engine-video-game-soundtracking/" target="_blank">CiE website</a> (free to access).<br />
<br />
As this is a 'green access' publication we are also able to offer a <a href="http://cmr.soc.plymouth.ac.uk/publications/FINAL%20ACM%20MUME%20PAPER_DW.pdf" target="_blank">downloadable pdf file</a> if you would like to check it like that instead of using a web browser.<br />
<br />
You can find out more about the <a href="http://cmr.soc.plymouth.ac.uk/bcmi" target="_blank">MIdAS project here</a>.<br />

<br />
I'm pleased to be able to post a few updates about my work with the Song Collectors Collective. I am the educational programme developer of the "Pathway" course, a free, online course in collecting traditional and folk song, based on the fascinating work already being undertaken by the SCC, thanks to Arts Council funding. I've attached a clip by Sam Lee (singer and avid collector) discussing the work.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ieTgGNQhCCc/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ieTgGNQhCCc?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The course is live now at <a href="http://openlearning.com/courses/song-collectors-pathway">openlearning.com/courses/song-collectors-pathway</a> and you can find out more about the SCC at <a href="http://songcollectors.org/">songcollectors.org</a><br />
<br />
Also as part of this work I have presented a couple of conference papers (at the Song Collectors Gathering in November in London, and more recently, at the Digital Memory symposium in Plymouth). Details of these, and a forthcoming invited paper in Vancouver at the <a href="http://2017.hci.international/" target="_blank">17th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction</a>, are up on the writing page now.<br />
<br />
Finally, I've received an invitation (and am very much looking forward to) speaking and participating at the first <a href="https://www.lorentzcenter.nl/lc/web/2017/866/info.php3?wsid=866&venue=Oort" target="_blank">Computational Ethnomusicology</a> workshop in Leiden, Netherlands, in March.<br />
<br />
Hopefully I will see some of you at one or the other!<br />
<br />
Lots more news on books and forthcoming journal papers soon.<br />
<br />
Thanks,<br />
<br />
